Cindy Meijer studied Classics & Ancient Civilizations at the VU University Amsterdam and has a specialization in Assyrian and Babylonian language and culture. She wrote her master’s thesis on the relationship between the Book of Daniel and its Mesopotamian background. She is interested in the Old Testament, Mesopotamian literature, the Hellenistic period, mythology and prophetic texts.
After her graduation she did a traineeship in the Allard Pierson Museum in Amsterdam. She also spent three months at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität in Münster to do research and intensify her knowledge of biblical Hebrew. At the moment she is a lecturer in Ancient History at the VU. She has taught introductory courses in Ancient History and has given lectures about the religion of ancient Israel and Canaan. In her free time, she enjoys drawing, painting and reading about the ancient world.
